THE HISTORY OF ROME THROUGH ITS RESTAURANTS

.

The way people eat is always helpful to better understand the spirit of a country; this is particularly true in the case of Rome, where it is possible to run through the events of the Eternal City by visiting at least four or five typical restaurants, on the search of the elements – Latin, Jewish, Italics – that formed the melting pot of Roman cooking: a ‘trattoria’ where meat is still cooked in an old fashioned way, with a cellar full of the remains of Roman wine jars, a restaurant in a Renaissance palace, with decorated ceiling and frescoes on the walls, absolutely a restaurant when the delicious Roman-Jewish cooking is served, and of course one of the restaurants by Via Veneto where the legend of La Dolce Vita was born.
